US Patent granted to accells for smart authentication of mobile transactions
US patent titled “System and method for secure transaction process via mobile device” protects accells mobile ID for smart authentication of mobile transactions.
Tel Aviv, Israel (PRWEB) January 24, 2013 — accells technologies has been granted US patent 8346672 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent titled “System and method for secure transaction process via mobile device” further protects accells mobile ID for smart authentication of mobile transactions. Granted earlier this month, the new patent marks another step in accells’ rapid rise in the authentication market for mobile transactions.
Today, more and more transactions, not only in banking but in many other commercial settings, are initiated and authenticated on mobile devices. Token-based solutions do not provide a manageable, user-friendly solution for these transactions, and mobile network operators have acknowledged that SMS One Time- Password services no longer provide sufficient security.
“The market’s move beyond passwords is underway. We’ve known it was coming, and we designed our authentication product specifically for the hugely expanding online and mobile world that we’re all working in,” said Eckhard Ortwein, CEO of accells. “Our product is extraordinarily easy to use, and offers businesses more adaptive security capabilities for the ever expanding number of use cases they are facing. It’s also much less expensive than existing security solutions, is very well aligned with IT trends—in particular BYOD and MDM—and enables improved compliance with legislation, regulation and standards. Our customer feedback indicates the consumer and ‘prosumer’—the super-active smartphone user with many professional and personal needs—are also going to love it”.
accells mobile ID enables the creation and use of a highly secure and very practical mobile-based authentication system for business users and consumers. It is the first authentication product designed with online and mobile use in mind – irrespective of the type of access device or the service being used. A context-based approach to multi-factor authentication enables an adaptive and stunningly simple usability. The innovative approach leverages all relevant authentication factors, such as location, devices-used, credentials and human-not-machine verifications.
“We are very pleased that this patent was granted by the USPTO”, stated Avish Weiner, inventor and cofounder of accells. “It is a foundational piece of our intellectual property portfolio. I am optimistic that our “mobile ID for smart authentication” can be a game-changer for providing enhanced security for smartphonebased access and transactions”.
The granted patent incorporates 3 independent claims and 23 dependent claims covering:
• the two-party authentication of a mobile app (i.e. by its backend server and an authentication system) using network topology information and location information,
• the out-of-band authentication to secure mobile-based transactions,
• the multi-factor authentication of transactions carried out on PCs or tablets using network topology information, and
• the out-of-band authentication of closed loop transactions using near field communication (NFC).
accells technologies has 15 additional patent applications pending for authentication of mobile-based transactions and access.
